As a professional dancer Kylie knows the importance of good posture and core strength and had regular pilates training. After retiring from competitive dancing Kylie decided to study pilates in much greater depth, became qualified as an instructor and now holds a Diploma in the technique. She intends to use her knowledge of pilates to help dancers understand the huge benefits that pilates can bring as well as preventing injury.
Kylie has incorporated pilates in much of her dance teaching, particularly with musical theatre students who are much more prone to injury due to their intense training schedule.
If you are interested in pilates tuition, whether you are a trained dancer or not, please feel free to contact Kylie on 07971262428.
What is Pilates?
Pilates is a mind-body technique where focus is placed on the bodies “core” muscles in an effort to improve flexibility, build strength and develop control. Exercises are practiced with precision and with an emphasis on quality over quantity.
What are the benefits?
The Pilates technique has been used by dancers and professional athletes for many years but is now becoming a popular method for overall well being.
Some immediate benefits of Pilates include
- Improved posture
- Improvement to muscle elasticity and joint mobility
- Better body awareness and muscle efficiency
- Core strength leading to a stronger and more stable trunk
- Reduced risk of injury
Clients with asthma, reduced mobility or back pain brought about by poor posture, benefit greatly and relatively quickly from Pilates.
Future risk of injury is greatly reduced when practicing Pilates because of the overall improvements in core strength, flexibility and body awareness.
